Chapter 11: Reaching a Multicultural and Diverse Audience

  In chapter 11 of Public Relations: Strategies and Tactics 9th Edition, we learned how to appeal to the multicultural and diverse audience that we are going to have to face everyday while in PR. 

  The first group is people of different age groups:

  • Youth and Young Adults (15-24 year olds):  according to statistics this age group spends one third of their time online, therefore this is a very important medium in which to reach young people.  It is also important to connect with the young people because they influence their parents. 
  • Baby Boomers
  • Seniors: this group is often less easily convinced than young adults, they are intense readers of newspapers and magazines, and they good sources of volunteers because they are often looking for something to do. 

  The top three minority groups are:

  1. Hispanics
  2. African-Americans
  3. Asian Americans

Other emerging audiences include

  • Catholic and Evangelical Groups
  • The Gay/Lesbian Community
  • The Disability Community
  • Women
